Join our team of Precinct Captains

There are 179 precincts in Davidson County, each centered around a polling location on election day. Organizing down to this grassroots, hyper-local level is important to reach Democratic voters in every corner of the county and mobilize them to the polls.

What is a precinct?

Precinct captains will help grow Democratic strength in Davidson County by building community and enthusiasm in their precincts.

The primary responsibility of a precinct captain is to contact Democratic voters in their precinct and mobilize them to the polls at election time. Forms of contact should include  phone banking and door knocking, often multiple times during election season to make sure they have the right voting information and are motivated to vote.

The Davidson County Democratic Party will provide each precinct captain with a contact list of Democratic voters in their precinct and the tools and resources to mobilize them effectively.

What does a precinct captain do?

Precinct captains will play other important roles too which support our ultimate goal of turning out Democratic voters. Before peak campaign season, precinct captains will:

  • Act as a trusted source of information to neighbors, communicating events and ways to volunteer and support our efforts.

  • Provide feedback to the local party and elected officials from the people in their precincts, relaying what is important to their neighbors.

  • Host (or help with) events to build community and plug local Democrats into our work. These events can be done in partnership with neighboring precincts and  designated executive committee members for those precincts.

  • Volunteer at community events where the party is present (registering voters, recruiting more precinct captains, Davidson County Democrats Give Back events, etc.).

  • Identify and recruit interested volunteers.

  • Help distribute yard signs and merch for the party and/or candidates.

What should precinct captains do when it’s not elections season?
